Start and End Dates

These fields only appear on the Edit Article page when the article belongs to a Calendar section.

Start Date

The Start Date field of the edit Article page

This date just determines where the article title will first appear on the calendar.

End Date

The end Date field on the Edit Article page

If the "No end date associated with this article" checkbox is ticked then the article title will only appear on the Calendar on the Start Date. If the box is unticked then the article title will appear as a link on the Calendar on every day from the Start Date up to and including the End Date.
