Adding other users

Your Webulator website is shipped with just one user: the site owner.

In many cases, the site owner will not be the person who is going to maintain your website so you may need to allow other users access to your site.

To add a new user, click on the "Add" button on the Users page

View of Add User form

Enter the user name for your new user. A good idea is to use actual names in the form "firstname.lastname" to make login names easier to remember.

Enter a password for this user. Passwords should not be easily guessable: use a combination of upper and lower case letters and numerals and have at least 8 characters. You can use alphabetical characters, digits, dashes and underscores in the password and it is limited to a maximum of 25 characters.

Enter the real name for this user so that you know who they are.

The drop down box containing your site name will most likely only contain 1 item (unless you have multiple sites) so you shouldn't need to do anything with this field.

Enter the user's email address. This is important because users are kept informed of changes to their articles by email.

Set the account status to "Active" which will allow the user to login. You can disable and reactivate the account at any time in the future using this field.

Set the user type to one of the values in the drop down box. The available values are:

  • Site Owner
This is the user responsible for the site. There can only be one site owner per site and they have permissions to do everything that it is possible to do on Webulator.
  • Site Admin
A Site Admin can do everything that a site owner can do, except modify the site owner's user details. There can be any number of Site Admins.
  • Moderator
A Moderator can create and validate articles. There can be any number of Moderators
  • Contributor
A Contributor can only create articles. Before an article can appear on the website, it must be validated by a Moderator. There can be any number of Contributors.
  • Reader
A Reader can only read articles. This user type is useful if you want to have articles that are visible only to a particular group of logged in users. For example, a school may want to have articles just for staff members, in which case it could create a group called "staff" and add each staff member as a Reader and make them a member of the "staff" group. Any articles marked as visible to the "staff" group and not marked as "public" will only be able to be seen by logged in staff members.

If you have any groups, tick any groups that you want this user to be a member of.
