Adding content to and removing content from the left and right columns

The [AddContent:] and [ClearContent:] tags can be used to add content to and remove content from the left and right columns of your web pages.

Most of the templates for Webulator have a main area which normally contains the main article content, but also have a left and/or right column which may contain the menu and search box. In many cases a list of recent articles and forthcomimg events may also be shown.

The tag allows you to add further content to the Left or right columns (but obviously, only to those columns which exist in your template).

The syntax for this tag is: [AddContent:Location,Content] where Location is Left or Right and Content is what you would like to appear in the column.

Multiple tags are allowed and content is added to the column in the order that the tags appear on the page.

The content is essentially text, but the text is processed in the same way as text in a CMS article, so special tags may be used to insert resources from elsewhere on the site, RSS feeds, Twitter feeds and so on.

If you want a number of pages on the site to contain the same information in the left and right columns, you can define this in a separate text field on the one page, and then just refer to that field using the Resource: tag on other pages. In that way, if you want to make a change to what appears in the columns for a group of pages, you only need to make a single edit.

Clearing Content From The Left and Right Columns

The tag allows you to remove content already added to the left and right columns.
The syntax for this tag is: [ClearContent:Location] where Location is Left or Right.

If you haven't added any content using the AddContent: tag, then all that ClearContent: will do is to remove the lists of recent articles and forthcoming events. However the tag will also remove any content added using AddContent: earlier in the same article.

You may have used the Resource: tag to pull in a standard set of AddContent: tags from another article. It may be these tags put content in both the left and right columns, but on a particular page you may only be interested in displaying the right hand column from that page and adding your own content to the left hand column, so adding a [ClearContent:Left] followed by some [AddContent:Left] tags, you have full control of what appears in the left column.

Example

The left hand column of this page has had its recent articles list removed and the Webulator article summary inserted using [ClearContent:Left][AddContent:Left,[Summary:269]]
